Most Amazon Fire TV Sticks only come with 8GB of internal storage, and half of that is taken up by the operating system. If you download more than a dozen apps, you will inevitably see the dreaded "Critically Low on Storage" error.

When storage is full, the Fire Stick will become incredibly slow and apps will refuse to open. Here is how to clean it out.

Step 1: Uninstall Unused Apps

The easiest way to free up massive amounts of space is to delete apps you haven't used in months.

1. From the home screen, go to Settings > Applications > Manage Installed Applications.
2. Sort the list by "App Size."
3. Click on the large apps you don't use (like games or old streaming services).
4. Click Uninstall.

Step 2: Clear App Caches

Even if you want to keep all your apps, they hoard temporary files (cache) over time. You can safely delete this cache without losing your login info.

1. Go back to Manage Installed Applications.
2. Click on apps you use frequently (like Netflix, Hulu, or YouTube).
3. Scroll down and click Clear Cache. (Do NOT click Clear Data unless you are willing to log back into the app).

Step 3: Delete Screensavers

Amazon loves to download gorgeous, high-resolution screensavers to your device in the background, and these eat up gigabytes of space. Unfortunately, you cannot delete them manually, but you can turn off the feature so it stops downloading more.

1. Go to Settings > Display & Sounds > Screensaver.
2. Change the settings so it doesn't automatically download new images.
